Recently I had the chance to interview one of my favorite musicians and fellow taco enthusiast, Tristan Prettyman. Fun fact: I actually sold her Girl Scout cookies a few years ago after hearing a rumor she moved near by. I had recently discovered her music and I was low key fangirling when I met her face to face. Anyways, I'm feeling like the luckiest girl in town, getting to interview her. If you don't know who she is, definitely go check out her music. My favorite song is Simple as it Should Be from her album Twenty Three.
Q: If you could visit any planet in our solar system, what would you choose?
A: Can I bypass our solar system and go to Alpha Centauri? I would love to go there, they just discovered a new planet orbiting, and it might be habitable. That would be so cool! If I can't go there, I would go to Saturn. I would love to see the rings up close!
Q: What was your first job, and how old are you?
A: I worked at Bellasarios Pizzeria when I was 15, which was when you were legally allowed to get a job.. my parents wasted no time! I worked there for 5 years, I had a blast, I loved it so much! I started playing music during the time I worked there and I would sell my CDs at the counter! Eventually i quit to pursue my music career.
Q: What was one thing you always wore as a kid?
A: Socks with fancy shoes. At church, at Christmas, etc...I have a pretty funny picture of me wearing black patent leather shoes, purple socks, black pants, and purple top and a black headband! I was super into fashion and my outfits! Can't say it was stylish, but it was my own unique style and I rocked it! To this day, I like to have fun with my outfits, and put together wacky combos. You only live once!
Q: What's your funniest on stage moment?
A:I have thought long and hard about this one, I really can't recall a funny moment on stage, but I can recall some fun moments, for instance I have had a couple proposals at shows, where the couple comes on stage, and it's been pretty amazing.
Q:If you could tell anything to your 10 year old self, what would it be?
A:I would say: Dear Tristan, you are so unique and spunky. This is a good thing! Follow your dreams, and forever think outside the box. People might tease you for it now, but it's what will make you stand out later in life. The kids who make fun of you at school, who teased you for having the last name Prettyman, for being super pale, with freckles and braces, they only do that because you beat to your own drum. Do not apologize for it. I know it sucks, but these incidents will only make you stronger. One day you will be a rockstar, and they will all want to be your best friend, and they will email you for tickets to your show!
Thanks so much for letting me interview you Tristan! Your answers are just as awesome and inspiring as you are!
