It’s that time of year–the time where we say goodbye to our bathing suits and hello to sparkly sneakers, brand-new backpacks, and the eventual arrival of crunchy leaves. The beginning of the school year symbolizes the start of Autumn. It’s a great opportunity for you to try out new styles, make friends, or jump into a cool new activity.
1. Lay out your clothes the night before.
This is SUCH a time-saver when it comes to getting ready in the morning. And since it’s the first day of school, you’ll probably want to wear one of your favorite things. Take the time to pick out your outfit before, that way you won’t have to worry about it on that first day. What should you wear? Something that you love and that makes you feel great.
2. Organize your backpack.
Like picking out your clothes, organizing your backpack can make a huge difference. Make sure you have all the supplies you need and that they fit in a way that you can remember. If you can, try to collect pens and pencils that make you feel excited for school. If you like what you’re working with, you’ll have more fun working on those assignments!
3. Talk to your friends about being nervous.
Starting school, especially a new school, can be really overwhelming! To combat any pesky and possibly scary thoughts, talk to your parents, friends, or siblings about the first day. What do you want out of this school year? What are you excited for? What are you nervous about? While sharing your feelings might feel intimidating, it can actually be quite a relief to know that you have others you want to listen to you.
4. Write a journal or diary entry the night before.
Journaling can help you organize your thoughts and express your ideas. It’s a good idea to clear your head and acknowledge all of the things that are swimming around in your mind the night before you start school. You can make a list of all the things you want to accomplish, your favorite things about summer, what you are anxious or excited for, or what you want to learn.
5. Find small ways to start the morning off right.
What makes you feel good in the morning? Is it a hot shower, or using a special face wash? Do you like to have blueberry pancakes, or a fruit smoothie? Your first day of school is a special occasion, and you can find little ways to make the morning special. If you have siblings starting school, you can also give them a little note or present to support them. Make sure you have plenty of time in the morning and that you or your parents know how to get to school. Remember: it’s totally exciting to start a new year. You can make it as awesome as you want!
