Bright Lite Submissions Guidelines
How do I submit my work?
Bright Lite welcomes submissions from kids who are eighteen and under.
We only accept submissions received through firstname.lastname@example.org that follow our guidelines listed below. Please include your name, age, and location for every submission and the theme of the issue you are submitting for in the subject line.
Remember to send us copies of your work, not originals, since your work will not returned. (Manuscripts should be submitted as a .doc, .docx, .txt file.)
How will I know if my work has been accepted?
Bright Lite is a small publication that receives hundreds of submissions every month. If your work has been accepted, we will try to get back to you within four to six week. Thanks for your patience, in advance! If you do not hear from us, if means that we were unable to use your work in the particular issue, but please keep trying! There will be many more chances for us publish your work.
What kinds of written pieces are you looking for?
We accept a wide range of writing including fiction, non-fiction, poems, jokes, journal entries, lists things that make you upset, things that make you happy, etc.
How long does it have to be?
We have no minimum length but please try to keep written submissions under 3000 words.
What happens after we accept your written piece?
We’ll send you a contributor’s agreement along with a parent or guardian’s release form to grant us permission to publish your work. We work very closely with our contributors and hope to inspire you to make your work the best it can possibly be.
What happens after we accept your visual piece?
Since we are a magazine geared towards girls under the age of eighteen, we require a signed release from anyone in a photo or video that has been accepted. This is to make sure we have written consent from your parents that says it is OK for your image to appear in Bright Lite.
Is there a deadline?
The deadline for each issue will be posted with the announcement of the issue’s theme.
